Love's Inventory

Here's a new song for you and your sweetest!

Love's Inventory

The lyrics are by the brilliant poet Pamela Harrison, a true inspiration. I set her poem to music and was fortunate to record it with two of the most talented musicians alive – Michael Ramos and Alex Marrero.

“All the hidden things you never think to tell…”

Many thanks to all you beautiful people who came and filled All Saints Church with your good vibes on Thursday night. We had a beautiful night and I feel so lucky to have shared it with you.

The Teller and the Truth

Life is full of ups and downs, but it seems that one thing leads to another and the joys outweigh the sacrifices at every turn.

A lonely 6-week writing retreat in Michigan turned into the album Broken Gold, recorded with the amazing R&B/dub organ trio The Finest Kind.

Broken Gold found its way to filmmaker Andrew Shapter, who used parts of the album in teasers for and final cut of his forthcoming movie, The Teller and the Truth.

Carl Thiel (whose composition and production work I have long admired) was composing the soundtrack to the movie, so Andrew suggested we work together on a Theme Song.  (Pinch me now!)

We created a song called "Wild Bird" based on the musical and emotional themes in the film and I am so proud of how it turned out.

Working with all of these talented, driven, and whole-hearted people of vision has enriched and inspired my life.

The Teller and the Truth is premiering at the Austin Film Festival in November.  I hope you will check it out and be inspired to follow your own vision with boldness.

What is success?

An interesting new article in The Atlantic explores my favorite Founding Father's ideas on success and how they differ from those of modern Americans.

"To live like a king seemed distinctly un-American."

... and the livin' is easy

My, my, the Summer is hot and languid.  Perfect for sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch drinking sweet tea and watching the world go by slowly.

I've been laying low, working on new material for my next album with producer Chuck Pinnell.  I am excited for the progress and content with the time it's taking.  Letting life move at its own pace, finally realizing I never really controlled it anyway.

Tonight, I'll be singing at a cool event in Austin - an exhibit by National Geographic photographer Greg Davis, benefiting Well Aware (a local non-profit which builds sustainable clean water systems in African communities).  Come check it out if you're in town

There are a few other public dates on my calendar through the Fall.

xo  Hope you are having a wonderful Summer.  Stay cool!  xo

Great vibes at Granada

Thanks to everyone who came to the show in Dallas last Friday!  Granada Theater is an awesome venue and I can't wait to get back there soon.

In the meantime, Allen Stone is playing at Granada Theater on Sunday, June 14.  Don't miss it.  He is good live.  Really good.  (He'll be in Austin on June 13, btw.)

Okay, gotta go learn "Birdhouse in Your Soul" to surprise my brother on his birthday.  Nobody tell him...

Women of SXSW interview

Wow!  I had such fun being interviewed for MusicLink's "Women of SXSW" series.  The folks from GMR Marketing made the wilds of the conference feel more cozy on that cool morning.

Listen to the archive for advice on how to get the most out of SXSW.

You are a parable, terrible to unwind
Spellbinder, impossible to find
Tell out your soul - a slow, slow forming
Break open to the light
Your time will be rewarded
